Skid Row Action Plan Community Design Session 1

On June 29 & 30, 2023, Change Well Project hosted the first of four community design sessions to support the development of an implementation strategy for the Skid Row Action Plan—which seeks to increase safety, empowerment, and wellbeing for Skid Row community members through permanent

and interim housing and critical supportive services.

This intensive, energizing meeting brought together over 65 diverse stakeholders, including service providers, county and city staff, residents, and those who have accessed services in Skid Row.

Day 1 SRAP Workshop

Day 1

During the first day of the community design session, participants spent time sharing their experiences living and working in Skid Row—reflecting on the community’s challenges as well as its strengths and opportunities. The group then focused time reviewing and getting grounded in the six recommendations developed last year that serve as the core of the Action Plan and engaged in conversations and exercises around next steps in defining an implementation strategy. At the end of both days, artist Viola Clark completed a graphic harvest to reflect the outcomes of the day.

Day 2 SRAP Workshop

Day 2

During the second day of the community design session, participants worked in small groups and completed an exercise to find agreement on ultimately vision or “North Star” for SRAP. That conversation followed with groups identifying how they would define success as implementation begins—and what outputs and impacts will be needed to know that implementation is on the right track.
